We use bottle groups to collect information that we cannot assign to a specific whisky because of missing details. See this article for more information on bottle groups.
When you add a whisky to your collection, and that whisky is part of a bottle group, you have two options for the evaluation of your collection:
You can use the price information directly assigned to that whisky
Or you can also include the price information assigned to the bottle group or other whiskies in that group.
We recommend using the bottle group if the whisky has no direct price observations because the other whiskies in that bottle group may have price observations.
Whiskies within the same bottle group are very similar, and prices will not differ much.
